The Morning After, The Brunch Event We Have Been Waiting For

Brunch has always been our thing-there is just something about decadent french toast, savory bacon and a boozy drink that makes us go all heart eyed emoji style.  It didn't take long for us to figure out that it wasn't just *our* thing-it was a Dallas thing.

Dallas has no shortage of food festivals that occur during the year but we have noticed a glaring absence of a brunch event-and thankfully in 2017 that void in our life will be no longer.  Thanks to Whole Foods Market and the partnership of the Dallas Observer, on February 11 Dallasites will have the opportunity to nom on unlimited brunch bites and imbibe on eight different tasty brunch cocktails, champagne and beers at the Dallas Farmers Market.

Tickets officially go on sale December 16th but our lucky followers can get their tickets right now at www.DOBrunchTheMorningAfter.com  and using the code 'JUSTEAT'

VIP Admission Ticket Includes:
Includes entry into the event 30 minutes earlier than general admission (entry at 11:00am) for early unlimited brunch samples from Dallas' hottest brunch spots before the general public. Alongside 8 brunch cocktails, champagne or beer samples! Additional drink sampling cards available for purchase at the event.

All Tickets Include:
Includes entry into the event at 11:30am, unlimited brunch samples from Dallas' hottest brunch spots, alongside 8 brunch cocktails, champagne or beer samples! Additional drink sampling cards available for purchase at the event.

A Lone Star Christmas at the Gaylord Texan

Lone Star Christmas at the Gaylord is becoming the post-Thanksgiving tradition (or even pre-Thanksgiving!) and there is no better way to spend your time there than to make it a weekend getaway at the resort in Grapevine.

Knowing you can always retreat to your room before you tackle the other activities, the resort offers for the holidays gives you the peace of mind and freedom to take your time. Protip: If you plan on visiting, make sure you call ahead and make your reservation for the many restaurants that are available. We made a rookie mistake and tried to get a table of four for the night of our first stay but the first reservation wasn’t until 9pm - a little past the kiddos bedtime. Luckily downtown Grapevine is a short drive down the road and has lots of dining options.  It turned out to be a fun treat-downtown Grapevine is seriously decked out for the holidays so it only enhanced our holiday weekend.

The next morning however, we did have reservations for breakfast-something we were looking forward to all weekend!!  We decided to go with the character dining of having breakfast with Rudolph the Red-Nose reindeer. Typically breakfast buffets, especially at a hotel, is nothing to write home about. Powdered eggs getting steam burnt from the sterno cans and everything else either too hot or too cold. But the Gaylord serves everything in cast iron skillets, charring and crisping while the food waits for you to attack. The crisp bacon and seasoned red potatoes are great side items to the fluffy scrambled eggs but you can also dive into skillet beef fajitas or even enjoy a hot, spicy bowl of pork pozole. But if you want to take a break from the standard buffet line, there is always the made to order omelettes and waffles. It was a pretty impressive breakfast for a character dining event.  Not to mention you get to meet Rudolph, Clarice and Bumble from the holiday classic, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

Gaylord’s A Lone Star Adventure has so many different activities to take part in, you will have a very busy (but fun!) weekend.  Keep an eye out on their website for packaged deals but when you get there you can anticipate the opportunity to:

  • Take photos with Santa

  • Hear Mrs. Claus read a story while you enjoy cookies and milk

  • Complete a scavenger hunt throughout the property to find their Elf on a Shelf

  • Ice skate under the skies on their new to 2017 outdoor rink

  • Decorate a gingerbread house or sleigh

  • Get your pitching skills evaluated at Santa’s Snowball Throwing Workshop

While most activities have an individual price (and if you want to do it all-you can save by getting a full access pass) you don’t have to do extra activities to get you in the spirit.  The Gaylord is decked out with tons of photo ops, twinkling lights and festive ambiance-before you know it you will find yourself humming, “It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!”

Favor Saves the day!

Recently at work I had to hold six of my teammates hostage during a four hour meeting.  Yes you read that correctly, four hours straight.  I knew it was only fair that I provide my team lunch since I kept them captive for so much of their day but I was stuck on what to order.  We have a few delivery spots in our regular rotation-pizza and a boring sandwich spot nearby. I really wanted to give them something better than the usual options but was limited because it had to be delivery since I was stuck in the meeting myself. Recently I have seen a ton of promotion and positive social media posts around Favor so I decided to reach out and see if they could help us liven up our lunch options and they totally came through!

Dallasites are lucky, the Favor app lets you pick from a ton of different spots (so there is something for everyone!) but ultimately I decided on one of my favorite lunch spots-East Hampton Sandwich Co.  Ordering couldn’t have been more simple-the app is easy to navigate and once I had everyone’s choices I placed my order and immediately was connected with my runner, Joshua.

I saw that there was an option to text Joshua directly-I wanted him to know about the security and delivery protocol for our building has since it can be a bit confusing.  I have had failed deliveries in the past so it was a relief to know I could communicate with him directly.  I also noticed on the app that there was a running timeline of what was going on with your order which was helpful so that I was able to make sure I led my meeting into a good breaking point once I saw that he was back en route to my office.

Our food showed up in less than 45 minutes from when I initially placed the order and still hot and fresh. The entire process was so seamless and I couldn’t have been more pleased!  My team was also happy with their lunch and all was forgiven for keeping them in a conference room for four hours.

Now some details: Yes, there is a fee to utilize Favor so it isn’t cost comparable to getting out and picking up your own food.  That said-if you are at an office like mine where there aren’t many options super close or parking is terrible and you don’t want to deal with trying to find a spot upon your arrival, Favor can help with that!  And if you want to get your first delivery fee waived sign up here and use the promo code ‘JUSTEATDALLAS’

When I reached out to Favor to inquire about how they could help me with my lunch conundrum, they offered to provide lunch for my team.  I was not required, but happy to post an honest review of my experience.  No free lunch would ever break my promise to y'all that I will always be truthful-Favor really is awesome!!
